In order to further expand the program characteristics, in 2019, the STU Business School is planning to build up the new major direction of innovation and entrepreneurship management in undergraduate enrollment. This direction focuses on training innovative thinking, teamwork, business analysis and entrepreneurial leadership, making students capable of business operation and management needed for the development of new ventures. Our school will set up some professional courses in cooperation with Babson College, which ranks first in Entrepreneurship Management Education in the United States.
For the purpose of better preparation for the establishment of the new direction courses, on March 25-27, 2019, selected faculty of our school participated in the "Teaching Innovation Based Entrepreneurship" seminar organized by Babson School in Xiamen. The seminar attracted professors from Singapore Polytechnic College, Taiwan Zhongzheng University, Lingnan University of Hong Kong, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Nanjing University and Tianjin University etc.
Professor Jay Rao and Professor Phil Kim from Babson College respectively held lectures, demonstrations and discussions on the thinking and methods of entrepreneurship education. Professor Jay Rao shared his own teaching experiences and discussed four topics in entrepreneurship education: “From teachers to coaches of students”, “How to inject innovation into your curriculum”, “How to develop innovative-based teaching materials”, “How to lecture innovative-based entrepreneurship projects and processes”, and "Leaders and cultures with entrepreneurship mentality". Professor Phil Kim has made experiential teaching on his expertise in "The Principle of Entrepreneurial Thinking and Action and its application in entrepreneurial education", "How to encourage your students to grasp the complexity and diversity of design thinking and systematic thinking in the course", "How to create learning experiences for students", "How to use experimental exercises and games in classroom". Through this seminar, our faculty not only learned the unique teaching concepts, teaching methods and skills of entrepreneurship education of Babson College, but also fully exchanged their teaching experiences with colleagues on entrepreneurship education from other universities, triggered in-depth thinking on existing teaching thinking, teaching content and teaching methods, which has laid a foundation for the curriculum of innovation and Entrepreneurship Management Direction in our school.
